Yoga & diet

The key focus with yoga is to have fresh food.  The reason for this is that fresh food has greater quantities of Prana or natural energy than food which has been processed or stored for long periods.  It also has a complete lack of preservatives and hopefully less in terms of pesticides.  I am not vegetarian, meat is hung for periods to enhance flavour, but is then obviously less fresh.

Someone once said to me, as long as you have plenty of colour on your plate you are doing alright – but not at the expense of a lot of e-numbers!

I am going add a recipe every month and then add them so that visitors can access and print them off.

Zucchini in Agrodolce

This is a simple recipe for a dish which uses what can be a surfit of produce at this time of year. It does not take long to produce and goes with meats, fish, omelettes, quiches etc.

Iib of small young corgettes – mixed colours makes a great looking dish

3 tablespoons of olive oil

1 small onion finely chopped

1 clove of garlic, skinned and crushed

Salt and freshly ground pepper

30ml (2tablespoons) of wine vinegar

10ml (2 teaspoons) sugar

Trim corgettes and thinly slice. Heat oil in a heavy pan add onoin and garlic and fry until soft (5min). Add corgettes and toss to coat in oil, season with salt and pepper, cover pan and cook gently for 5 minutes until tender. Mix together vinegar and sugar, pour over and turn up the heat for 2 minutes to glaze.

Beetroot Burgers

This is a great recipe, good food and tasty. I put the beetroot in the food processor (but you can grate it) and then separately the bread.
2 beetroot about 1lb I onion finely diced
1 can Cannelloni Beans 1 clove of garlic – crushed
110gm breadcrumbs Parsley
2 eggs, beaten chilli, tsp cumin, pepper
Table spoon of seeds – nigella, sunflower etc
1. Soften the onion in linseed or sesame oil add garlic and then spices and pepper for 2min.
2. Add beetroot, breadcrumbs and parsley and mix well, then work in squashed beans and lastly the egg.
3. Form into 8 patties by hand and allow to chill in the fridge for 1hour.
4. Grill for 10min each side put some oil on the top, I turn them.
5. Top with thinly sliced tomato, cheese, guacamole, whatever.
